Hockey action featuring top international sides returned to Western Australia with a blockbuster game between the Hockeyroos and China at the Bunbury Hockey Stadium recently.
The Hockeyroos v China series hit Bunbury with the Hockeyroos opening their 3-match series against China with a hard fought nil-all draw in front of a bumper crowd at the Bunbury Hockey Stadium. Perth also hosted the sides over the same weekend. The games were officially sanctioned by the FIH, providing further high-level competition post the FIH Pro League campaigns across Australia and New Zealand.
“We were really excited to bring more international hockey featuring our iconic national teams to our shores and sports fans across the country,” Hockey Australia CEO, David Pryles, said. “There is a strong and passionate hockey community in Western Australia’s Southwest. It is a huge coup for the region to host part of this sanctioned international test series.”
The matches were viewed worldwide presenting a unique opportunity for Australian hockey to shine on the global scale. Mr Pryles said Hockey WA played an integral role in hosting this series and he thanked the City of Bunbury for the enthusiasm in hosting one of the matches.
Local Mayor, Jaysen Miguel, was thrilled and proud to see Hockey Australia bringing this international showcase to Bunbury. “We have a passionate hockey community in Bunbury and along with our broader community, I know our residents and visitors were excited to see the Hockeyroos coming to our City to pack out Bunbury Hockey Stadium in support, ” he said.
“This is just the latest event through the City’s partnership with Sports Marketing Australia that will bring hundreds of visitors to Bunbury, providing an amazing social and economic boost.”
