Queensland and NSW will attract more events into their regions in the lead up to the Brisbane Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2032 through new partnerships signed between SMA, QSport and Sport NSW.
QSport and Sport NSW have individually joined forces with SMA to assist their State Sporting Organisations (SSOs) and Local Government Authorities (LGAs) to secure more meaningful partnerships which attract international, national and state events, camps and conferences into the East Coast as the nation hits the green and gold runway for the Brisbane Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Through the Events Placement Program, SMA has attracted over 600 events into its partnering destinations over the past 12 months. With a relationship base of 950 State, National and International Sporting Organisations.
“This is an exciting development for QSport as the services provided by SMA deliver unique benefits for the entire sports industry,” QSport CEO, Tim Klar said. “SMA ensures that sporting organisations find the right destinations and venues to host events, they access funding and secure logistical support through a Preferred Suppliers Program. The Events Placement Program attracts vast tourism interest to these regions which helps grow the sports and events tourism industry for the future.”
Sport NSW echoed these statements and described the new partnership as an exciting development with the services provided by SMA delivering significant benefits for the whole sports and events tourism industry. CEO, Stuart Hodge, said SMA’s comprehensive Events Placement Program would assist NSW sporting organisations to find the best destinations and venues to host more successful events.
SMA Managing Director, Craig Gibson, said SMA was looking forward to working closely with QSport and Sport NSW and all members to drive sports and events tourism in both states. “We have an excellent track record in this space and welcome this opportunity to work with more event owners and Local Government (LGA’s) throughout the East Coast,” Craig said. “SMA can deliver strategic outcomes through event procurement and placement, strategic consultancy and our successful grant writing services. With events specialist, Corey Bell, joining the SMA team recently, these new partnerships are of great importance as we race towards Brisbane 2032.”
Vicsport also formed a new partnership with SMA in February, including Sporting Organisations and Local Government Authorities (LGAs) in Victoria.
