Tasmania will host the Australian Junior Squash Championships later this year, enhancing the state’s growing reputation as a destination for major sporting events.
From 27th September to 3rd October, Tasmania will demonstrate its power to deliver a high-quality experience for all athletes, families, officials and event partners.
SMA’s grant writing team worked with Squash Australia to secure this much needed funding through Events Tasmania’s 2025 Event Attraction Fund, which was a 2024 Election commitment that aligns with the three pillars of the Tasmanian Government Events Strategy 2023-2027 – Economic, Social and Brand.
The championships will showcase just why junior tournaments are highly valuable for destinations with most young athletes accompanied by family and friends as well as coaches and officials. The increased spectator rate increases demand for accommodation, hospitality and local experiences before, during and after the event while increasing the overarching economic success.
Squash Australia, CEO, Robert Donaghue, was thrilled to make the announcement saying the organisation was keen to bring the Championships to Tasmania and partner with the Tasmanian Government via Events Tasmania.
