$6 million in Visitor Expenditure to Perth Economy
Perth has taken centre stage hosting more than 900 competitors from around the globe at the 2026 World Squash Masters Championships. The championships brought together athletes from 55 countries, aged 35+ to compete across 21 divisions for the title of World Champion.
Director, Jason Sleeman, said SMA was proud to support the world championship which was expected to contribute more than $6 million in direct visitor expenditure to the Perth economy. SMA worked with Tourism Western Australia and the City of Stirling to support the event’s delivery, while international and interstate competitors were offered discounted accommodation through unique SMA partnerships at the Rendezvous Hotel in Scarborough, Quest Scarborough and Quest Perth Ascot.
From the international competition on court, to the thousands of visitors experiencing Perth because of this event, the 2026 World Squash Masters Championships showed the power of sport to drive tourism, showcase destination strengths and deliver meaningful economic benefits to communities
Held over eight action-packed days from 30 August to 6 September, the tournament delivered more than 1,800 matches at three venues. The all-glass show court at Karrinyup Shopping Centre showed off international squash in one of Perth’s busiest public spaces, while 4 courts were used at Mirrabooka Squash Centre and eight courts at Belmont Squash Centre, promoting the depth, passion and wide appeal of masters’ squash.
“The championships generated significant visitor nights and tourism expenditure across the city,” Jason added. ”The scale and international reach demonstrated the real benefits that sporting events deliver. Congratulations to Squash Australia, World Squash, Squash WA, Tourism Western Australia, the City of Stirling, Karrinyup Shopping Centre and everyone involved in bringing this major international championship to Perth. “
