Events Tourism Network Expands - Australia, NZ & Beyond

SMA has kicked off 2025 with major momentum, expanding our events sports tourism footprint through strategic partnerships with key destinations across Australia and New Zealand and beyond.

We have recently welcomed the below Councils to our Events Placement Program:

  • Sunshine Coast Council, QLD
  • Redland City Council, QLD
  • Leeton Shire Council, NSW
  • Mid-Western Council, NSW
  • Campaspe Shire Council, VIC
  • Southland, New Zealand.

These strategic partnerships create fresh opportunities for event organisers, sports bodies, and rights holders to place and grow events in regions that value the economic and social benefits of sports and events tourism.

As the global focus sharpens on LA 2028 and Brisbane 2032, SMA is evolving to meet the needs of the elite sports market by identifying international High-Performance Sports Camps and conference venues.

SMA has secured an exclusive partnership with the Chula Vista Elite Athlete Training Centre (CVEATC) in San Diego—a premier U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Training Centre. This world-class venue offers ideal conditions for pre-Olympic training camps, making it a top choice for teams for LA 2028.

For international teams heading to New Zealand, we have joined forces with the New Zealand Campus of Innovation and Sport (NZCIS), a cutting-edge high-performance facility near Wellington. Formal launch announcements will follow in 2025.

SMA Director, Craig Gibson, said the team were placing more events across Australia and New Zealand than ever before. “We’re complementing those events with international high performance camps, conferences and expos, driving significant value for destinations and the broader sports tourism industry,” he said.
