Global Fitness Phenomenon Lands in Dunedin

The Otago Region is poised to welcome a transformative force in global fitness as The Butterfly Effect makes its much-anticipated New Zealand debut in Mosgiel, Dunedin, next year.

Since its inception in 2016, The Butterfly Effect has grown into a global movement with a bold mission: to challenge outdated beauty standards and foster confidence, self-belief and sisterhood. The event is internationally recognised for its powerful blend of athleticism, empowerment and community spirit and it promises to be a game-changer for female athletes.

With up to 250 fierce competitors competing in teams of three, The Butterfly Effect is following phenomenal success across Australia and the Asia-Pacific. Demand for this event experience is soaring while attracting crowds of up to 500 enthusiastic spectators. Tickets are selling out within weeks of release.

In the lead-up to the main event, a series of high-energy training camps will help athletes prepare to compete at their peak, while also building momentum and excitement throughout the region.

“Bringing The Butterfly Effect to Otago is about so much more than sport,” said Butterfly Effect CEO, Rowena Calderwood. “It’s about sparking a movement—one that uplifts and inspires women to own their strength, support one another, and shine unapologetically. The camaraderie, the confidence, the celebration of resilience—it’s truly something special.”

Beyond the competition arena, the event is expected to deliver a significant economic boost to the region, with an estimated $300,000 in direct impact, supporting local businesses, tourism, and the wider fitness community.
