Rowing Australia Conference Attracts Elite Athletes to Gold Coast

Rowing Australia will host the 2024 Oceania Rowing Coaching and Sports Science Conference and the 2024 Hancock Prospecting Rower of the Year Awards for the first time at the Gold Coast through a partnership facilitated by SMA.

The events are supported by the City of Gold Coast and will unite Australia’s finest rowers, coaches and sports scientists in the region. The 2024 Oceania Rowing Coaching and Sports Science Conference will take place at Griffith University from 31 October – 2 November and will attract around 300 delegates over three days.

Following the conference, the rowing community will gather at QT Gold Coast Hotels and Resorts to celebrate the 2024 Hancock Prospecting Rower of the Year Awards.

Australia won a Bronze medal at the Paris Olympics with Jessica Morrison and Annabelle McIntyre in the coxless pair. Coming off the back of this success, the conference and awards night will provide an opportunity for the Gold Coast and the local supply chain to leverage off Rowing which will feature not only in Brisbane in 2032 at Wyaralong Dam in Scenic Rim, but also with Coastal Rowing which will feature for the first time at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

Rowing Australia Chief Executive Officer, Sarah Cook (OLY), said she was excited for these two events to be back on the Gold Coast.
