Sports Marketing Australia has officially launched Sports Marketing International (SMI) at a signature event in Brisbane to attract more global events, high performance training camps and sports conferences into Australia and New Zealand over the next decade.
After more than 21 years in the events industry, Managing Director, Craig Gibson, said it was the perfect time to expand the SMA footprint by securing international sports events, camps and conferences in Australia and New Zealand.
“SMI’s further expansion into international markets will be a huge win for destinations across Australia and NZ, with a deepening desire for sports teams and events to come to Australia in the lead up to the Brisbane Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2032,” Craig said. “We have also launched our new Preferred Suppliers Program joining forces with a variety of marketplace leaders in accommodation, travel, sports equipment, nutrition, health and wellbeing, security and media creating a full circle experience for event owners both in Australia and internationally.”
Director, Jason Sleeman, said through SMA, Sports Marketing International (SMI) was developing stronger relationships across all platforms. “This includes international sporting federations and professional sporting teams across the UK, Asia and other strategic markets, while growing the relationship base in New Zealand and the Pacific,” Jason added.
“SMI is working with prominent International Sports Federations including the Asian Football Confederation, Federation of International Touch Football, the International Table Tennis Federation, the Professional Darts Corporation, World Badminton, Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme and a number of Oceania and Pacific Sport Organisations including the Oceania National Olympic Committee. We are excited to add another layer onto this across all sports, just like we have done in Australia and New Zealand over the past 20 years.”
SMI General Manager Partnerships and Commercial – International, Corey Bell, is actively pursuing new business opportunities both domestically and internationally in new markets including Asia and the UK. Corey’s brief is to broaden the SMA footprint and to build new verticals including placing international elite training camps and creating relationships in new markets. Corey comes to SMA with more than 20 years of experience across business, sport and Government sectors.
Both Craig Gibson and Corey Bell will be representing SMI at the world’s premier sports conferences, SportAccord, in April in the UK. SMI is the In Market Representative for SportAccord in Australia and NZ for the 2024 SportAccord World Sport & Business Summit in Birmingham.
