The team at Sports Marketing Australia and Sports Marketing International has attended a number of major conferences during the past three months, providing a valuable opportunity to network with the leaders in international sport.
The conferences included the 2024 SportAccord World Sport & Business Summit in Birmingham, the Oceania National Olympic Committee’s (ONOC) 44th Annual General Assembly (AGA) in Fiji, the UK Sport Partners Day in London and the Federation of International Touch Conference in Singapore.
SMA & SMI Managing Director, Craig Gibson, and SMI’s General Manager Partnerships and Commercial, Corey Bell, attended the SportAccord World Sport & Business Summit in April. The event brought together more than 1,500 leaders and key decision makers from more than 120 International Federations (IFs), the International Olympic Committee and major organisations involved in the business of sport. SMI is actively growing its network of event organisers and sporting organisations globally, which will have a direct benefit for all councils and destination partners. Corey said that the summit was a huge success and the networks and connections formed would assist Australia “for years to come” as the nation hits the green and gold runway for the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Brisbane in 2032. “The key people in sport from across the world were in Birmingham, ” he said. “This event provided opportunities to grow the events industry back in Australia by attracting events, high performance training camps and sports conferences into our domestic marketplace. This was the first time SportAccord has run in 5 years and these opportunities to connect and do business, don’t come around often”. As the SportAccord slogan says: ‘It’s where sport meets’.” At ONOC’s General Assembly in Fiji, SMI represented destinations and suppliers and provided key information about potential Government and non-Government commercial partnerships for high-performance camps and conferences in Australia and New Zealand in the lead up to the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games. SMI’s Senior Partnerships Manager, Dave Szumowski, said ONOC had identified that HP camps in Australia and New Zealand were a major ingredient for success in Brisbane 2032. SMI ran a booth at the conference and held meetings with representatives from National Olympic Committees (NOCs), the Organisation of Sports Federations of Oceania (OSFO), the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and Organising Committees of Olympic Games (OCOGs).
