The University of Wollongong will host the prestigious 28th UniSport Australia Indigenous Nationals in 2024. The event was secured through SMA’s Events Placement Program and a partnership facilitated by SMA between UniSport Australia and Destination Wollongong.
The Indigenous Nationals connects Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people from around Australia in a powerful way through sport. It promotes positive role models, health, fitness and wellbeing with the four-day competition including over 500 student athletes, their families and friends, competing in Basketball, Netball, Touch Football and Volleyball.
UniSport has recognised the support of Destination Wollongong in securing the Indigenous Nationals which are being held in the Wollongong for the first time. Jeremy Wilshire, from Major Events & Special Projects at Destination Wollongong, said the region was proud of the local Dharawal heritage and the modern contribution of the University of Wollongong to the city. He stated that Wollongong was delighted to host the Indigenous Nationals as a major sporting event.
